Cala Conta Yacht Anchor Guide: Where to Drop, When to Leave
Skip ahead — the office handles the rest
Cala Conta is the postcard of west-coast Ibiza — three beaches in a single bay, turquoise water over a sandy bottom, the silhouette of S'Espartar to the horizon. It is also one of the busiest anchorages on the island in July and August. Here is how to read it.
The three anchor positions
North bay (best)
The largest of the three bays, sandy bottom 6 – 14m deep, room for fifteen yachts. Anchor north of the centre marker; holding is excellent in westerly weather, problematic in southerlies.
Middle bay
Smaller and busier. Suitable for sport boats and smaller flybridges; superyachts struggle for swing room.
South bay (Cala Conta Sur)
Quieter, narrower entrance. Worth it if you want isolation; depths 4 – 10m so superyachts cannot anchor close in.
Wind and swell notes
- Holds well in N, NE, E winds
- Exposed in S, SW — leave by 14:00 if forecast shows wind shift
- August thermal westerlies (15 – 20 knots) create afternoon chop; anchor before 11:00 or after 17:00
The shore access
Tender to the centre beach; the Cala Conta beach club (Sunset Ashram) takes lunch bookings 7 – 14 days ahead in season. We book at quote time for clients on weekly charter; day-charter guests should call directly two weeks ahead.
When the crowds win
August Saturday between 13:00 – 17:00 you will have forty yachts in the bay. Best timing: anchor 10:00 for a 13:00 lunch ashore, leave before 16:00. Avoid Saturdays entirely if the priority is photos.
