Cala Mastella El Bigotes: The Reservation That Defines the Week

·4 min read·Aurelius Society

Skip ahead — the office handles the rest

El Bigotes is the most-coveted lunch on Ibiza's east coast — and the one nobody can book by phone. The restaurant sits on a small platform in Cala Mastella, between Santa Eulària and Es Canar, run by Joan "Bigotes" for forty years. Reservations are taken in person at the restaurant itself, the day before or earlier in the same week.

How the office handles it

For charter weeks we send the house manager or a driver to the restaurant on the morning of the intended booking — Joan opens at 11:00 to take reservations for that day's lunch and the next day. Standard is two days' lead time. The office handles this on every Ibiza week where El Bigotes is on the brief.

The anchor

Cala Mastella is small — depths 4 – 10m, sandy bottom, room for four to six yachts comfortably. Tender to the wooden landing where Joan's terrace begins. The walk is two minutes.

The menu

Single course: fish of the day, grilled with garlic and olive oil, served with a saffron rice (bullit de peix), tomato salad, bread, and a glass of local white. €60 per person, cash only. No menu, no choice, no exceptions.

What to know

  • Lunch service starts 13:30, ends 16:00
  • No reservations by phone, email, or website
  • Cash only (Joan does not accept cards)
  • Children welcome; no kids' menu
  • Closed Mondays
