RIB vs Flybridge: Which Anchorages Can Each Reach?
Direct answer
RIBs (12–14m) reach every named anchorage in Ibiza and Formentera — they're light, fast, and tuck into shallow coves. Flybridges (20m+) skip the tightest anchorages (Atlantis, the back of Tagomago, certain Formentera coves) but offer the comfort for a long day. Both have their place.
The yacht-shopper's first instinct is to go bigger. The captain's instinct is the opposite — bigger means fewer places. The map below shows what each hull type can reach comfortably.

What only RIBs reach
- Atlantis (Sa Pedrera de Cala d'Hort) — shallow, wave-exposed, no real anchor holding for big boats. RIBs nip in for 30 minutes between swells.
- The back of Tagomago — narrow passage between the island and the mainland. Doable in a 12m RIB at low speed.
- Cala Boix, Cala Mastella — the small calas on the north-east coast. Larger yachts anchor offshore and tender in; RIBs sail right to the beach.
What flybridges offer instead
- Shade for a full day on board.
- A real lunch on the aft deck — not on your knees.
- A bathroom that's a proper bathroom.
- Air-conditioning for the salon when the sun is at its peak.
- Overnight options.
The right answer for most days
