Fuel Burn, Honestly: What Each Hull Costs Per Hour

·6 min read·Aurelius Society

Direct answer

Fuel is paid by you through the APA at cost, so it varies with the hull and how hard you run it. Across the fleet, hourly burn at cruise runs from about 110 litres on a RIB to 950 on a 31m planing yacht. The table below is real consumption, not brochure figures.

Charter pricing pages quote a day rate and go quiet about fuel. That is because fuel does not sit in the rate — it sits in the APA, the advance provisioning allowance you fund and the crew spend at cost on your behalf. Which means the hull you pick, and how hard the captain runs it, sets a real number that nobody advertises. So here it is, straight from the fleet.

Hourly burn at cruise, by hull

YachtLengthFuel / hour at cruise
Superhawk 4013 m≈ 110 L
Frauscher 1212 (Viena)11.9 m≈ 140 L
Vibe (Canados 49)15.5 m≈ 180 L
Cayman 4013 m≈ 180 L
Juliet 6519.8 m≈ 300 L
Lady KC 9930.2 m≈ 600 L
Aya One 9027 m≈ 700 L
Friendship 11535 m≈ 700 L
Funky Town 9027.5 m≈ 800 L
Dark Knight / La Romana 10231 m≈ 950 L
Consumption at a normal cruise. Sitting at anchor — where most of an Ibiza day is spent — burns a fraction of this on the generator only.

Two things the table doesn't show

First, most of a charter day is spent at anchor, not underway. A boat that burns 950 litres flat-out might use a tenth of that holding station while you swim — so a fast hull is not as thirsty across a real day as the headline suggests. Second, displacement yachts like Lady KC and Friendship sip fuel for their size precisely because they don't plane — you trade speed for economy.

Putting a number on your day

Office note

Rule of thumb: on a typical Ibiza day with two short runs and a long anchored lunch, fuel lands well below the flat-out hourly figure. If your captain is burning the top number, you are crossing to Mallorca — not lunching at Espalmador.
