Ibiza Villa Wifi & Working From Pool: Real Speeds, Backup Plans

The pitch is "work-from-anywhere in your Ibiza villa, with the pool right there". The reality, in August, is sometimes a 12 Mbps DSL line shared with the children watching Netflix in three bedrooms. Below is what to actually expect, and how the office sets up villas where remote work is a constraint.

What's installed by default

• Urban Ibiza (Jesús, Talamanca, Santa Eulària): 500 Mbps – 1 Gbps fibre. Reliable, consistent. Genuine work- grade.
• North coast (San Joan, Santa Eulària outskirts): 200 – 500 Mbps fibre in newer builds; 20 – 50 Mbps DSL in older properties.
• South coast (Es Cubells, Cala Jondal): Mixed. Newer estates have fibre; older country houses may be on line-of-sight wireless to the nearest fibre POP.
• Cap Martinet, Roca Llisa: Generally good fibre. Properties built post-2018 have meshed Wi-Fi 6.

Pool coverage (the real test)

Even on a 500 Mbps line, signal at the pool depends on how many access points and how they're placed. A single router in the living room leaks across the garden at 30 Mbps if you're close, 5 Mbps at the pool cabana. A 3-AP mesh (one indoor, two outdoor with weatherproofing) delivers 100+ Mbps everywhere.

We brief the villa manager in advance if remote work is a charter requirement. Most properties allow us to swap in a guest mesh node ahead of arrival — cost is bundled into the concierge fee.

The backup 5G plan

When the villa fibre is unreliable (rare, but happens in August storm seasons), we install a 5G hotspot from Movistar or Orange. Real-world: 300 – 500 Mbps down, 50 – 100 up. €18 / day. Set up day before charter, live for the week.

Video call quality

The constraint usually isn't bandwidth — it's microphone and background. The pool cabana has wind interference; the master suite has air-conditioning hum. The villa manager can set up a corner of the salon (away from doorways, with a window behind you) as the designated call corner — ask in advance.
