t. Moritz sits at 1,856 metres in the Engadin valley of Graubünden — the highest of the major European winter resorts, in the Italian-speaking corner of Switzerland that pivots toward Milan rather than Zurich. The village has hosted the Winter Olympics twice (1928, 1948), the Badrutt family's Palace is the resort's defining property since 1896, the frozen St. Moritzersee hosts the world's two outdoor winter events on its surface — White Turf horse racing in February, Snow Polo World Cup the third weekend of January.
Engadin is dryer, sunnier and higher than the western Swiss Alps. Three hundred-plus days of sun per year, snow that holds from December through April, the Furtschellas-Corvatsch and Corviglia ski areas above the village. The post-ski rhythm is well-established: 16:00 King's Club at Badrutt's, 18:00 Renaissance Bar at the Carlton, 19:30 dinner. Cresta Run — the famed skeleton track behind the Kulm Hotel — operates by invitation through the St. Moritz Tobogganing Club.
Air access is via Samedan (LSZS) — the Engadin airfield in the valley floor, 7 km from the village, 1,706 metres altitude. The runway is 1,800m and constrained by the surrounding mountains; the airport's published landing types include the Pilatus PC-24, Citation XLS+, Challenger 350 in clear conditions. Larger types and bad-weather operations route via Milan Malpensa (LIMC) — 2h45 by car or 35 minutes by helicopter — or Zurich (LSZH, 3h30 by car).

Short answer
If you are reading this briefly.
St. Moritz sits at 1,856m in the Engadin valley of Graubünden — the highest major European winter resort, with three hundred-plus days of sun annually and the season running mid-December through early March. The defining hotels are Badrutt's Palace (since 1896), the Kulm, the Carlton, Suvretta House and the Grand Hotel Kronenhof in nearby Pontresina. The two outdoor lake events define the social calendar: Snow Polo World Cup (third weekend of January, Cartier-sponsored) and White Turf horse racing (three Sundays in February). Air access is via Samedan (LSZS, Europe's highest active jet airport at 1,706m altitude, runway 1,800m) — accepting up to Pilatus PC-24, Citation XLS+, Challenger 350 in clear conditions. Larger types route via Milan Malpensa (2h45 chauffeur, 35-min helicopter) or Zurich (3h30). Aurelius does not operate yachts here — alpine destination.
Questions we hear
St. Moritz — answered.
Can we land at Samedan in a Falcon 7X?+
Not in routine operation — Samedan's altitude (1,706m), runway length (1,800m) and approach constraints limit the published landing types to Pilatus PC-24, Citation XLS+, Challenger 350 and similar. Falcon 7X, G550 and larger types route via Milan Malpensa (2h45 chauffeur or 35-min helicopter) or Zurich (3h30 or 50-min helicopter).
When is Snow Polo World Cup?+
The third weekend of January — Friday and Saturday play, Sunday final. The tournament has run since 1985 on the frozen St. Moritzersee. Cartier-sponsored marquee since 2002. Hospitality boxes book by November; ticket access via partner channels (Badrutt's Palace, Kulm Hotel).
When does White Turf race?+
Three consecutive Sundays in February — the second, third and fourth Sundays of the month. Flat racing, hurdles and a skikjöring race (where the rider stands on skis behind a galloping horse). The BMW Cup is the third-Sunday marquee. Hospitality boxes book by December; the office routes via the principal sponsors.
Is the Cresta Run open to guests?+
By invitation only, via the St. Moritz Tobogganing Club. The 1,212-metre natural-ice skeleton track behind the Kulm Hotel runs December through February. Membership and ride access are by introduction; the Aurelius office routes via long-standing member channels. Helmet, full leathers and a riding instructor are mandatory.
How is St. Moritz different from Gstaad?+
St. Moritz is louder, higher, sunnier and more Italian — three hundred-plus days of sun, the lake-and-village geography, the Snow Polo and White Turf events as social peaks. Gstaad is German-speaking, quieter, residentially compact. Many members alternate years between the two; some hold permanent addresses in both.
What's the language?+
Romansh historically; German and Italian in current practice, with the village pivoting toward Milan more than Zurich. English universal in the hotels and at the ski-school. Italian helps in the chalet rentals and the village restaurants.
